Term 2 Week 3

please read this attached file as a moderators repose on tips of how to best prepare your research project Folio and outcome to achieve the best results you can.

Assessment Type
Materials Submitted
Folio (40%)
  • Proposal
  • Research
    development

  • Discussion
A maximum of ten A4 pages (written) or a maximum of 10 minutes, or the equivalent in multimodal form.
The teacher and student select evidence of the research development. The evidence selected may include material from the proposal.
Digitally recorded evidence or written notes, or a combination of these, to a maximum of 10 minutes of continuous recording or two A4 pages in printed copy, or equivalent. Notes may be made before, during, and/or after one or two formal discussions.
Research Outcome (30%)
A maximum of 1500 words if written or a maximum of 10 minutes if oral, or the equivalent in multimodal form.

Assessment Type 1: Folio
In your Folio 10 pages label P1, P2, A1, A2, A3 (performance standards) where they occur with stickynotes or comments explaining them.

The selection should provide evidence of each of the specific features of the assessment design criteria ‘Planning’ (consideration and identification of the research topic, and planning of research processes appropriate to the research topic) and ‘Application’ (development of the research, analysis of information and exploration of ideas, and application of knowledge and skills).

Material submitted for the proposal and research development part of the folio may consist of a combination of written and non-written evidence. This should be limited to a total of ten single-sided A4 pages (not additional pages reduced in size) or 10 minutes or equivalent of digitally recorded evidence.

For the discussion part of the folio, students and teachers include digitally recorded evidence or written notes, or a combination of these, to a maximum of 10 minutes or two A4 pages, or equivalent. For example, a student may submit 5 minutes of digitally recorded evidence and one A4 page.

Assessment Type 2: Research Outcome

Students negotiate with their teachers suitable forms for producing their research outcome. The form is likely to vary from student to student, depending on the research topic and focus of the research processes. The evidence of learning submitted for assessment may be, for example:

  • an essay, a report, a booklet, or an article that incorporates evidence and examples that substantiate the key findings
  • a product, for example, an artefact, a manufactured article, or a work of art or literature, or a record of a product, with accompanying evidence and examples that substantiate the key findings.

The research outcome may be presented in written, oral, or multimodal form. In most cases the word and time limits, as stated in the Research Project subject outline, apply both to the research outcome or product, and to the accompanying evidence and examples.

However, in some cases the word and time limits apply only to the accompanying evidence and examples that substantiate the key findings. The outcome or product may be, for example, an installation, a construction, or a song, to which word and time limits would not apply.

Identification
The CD-R or DVD–/+R should be identified with the:
  • school number
  • name of the subject
  • SACE registration number and any other numerals used to identify each student in the recording.
This information must be clearly indicated on the CD-R or DVD–/+R with a title in the menu or a title slide at the beginning of the CD-R or DVD–/+R.
When there is more than one CD-R or DVD–/+R for an assessment group, each CD-R or DVD–/+R should be clearly numbered (1, 2, etc.).
Only SACE registration numbers or other numerals should be used to identify students in electronic files.
Example

Work of Individual Student
School Number: 0XXX
Assessment Details: AT1, Task 2
SACE Registration Number: 123456X

Term 2 Week 1

Your draft research Outcome is now due. You will need to meet with me to recieve feedback on your outcome and and folio using the performance standards. This meeting will give you an opportunity to see how well you are going and where you need to improve before your final copies are due.
This week you should be editing your outcome. Please see me if you need any assistance.

Weeks 9 and 10

If you have not done a discussion with me you will need to make a time ASAP. You will need to continue to develop your Folio and have a draft outcome by the end of term.

There will be no classes on Week 10 Thursday and Friday as I will be in Malaysia for work. I expect that you have uploaded to your wiki or emailled me a draft or outline of how you expect to present your outcome. You can contact me on my email at caroline.woud@woodvillehs.sa.edu.auGood luck with your research, Caroline Woud.Week 6-8Discussion
Ensure you make a time with your teacher to complete your first discussion this week. It can be 5 minutes oral recorded or 1 A4 sheet of writing. Ensure you use the discussion handouts to guide your questions for your discussion.

5 tips for writing interview questionsWriting questions for an interview can be tricky. It is important that you know the right questions to ask and how to ask them. Structuring of the interview questions is also important. The following are five simple tips to help you write interview questions.

newsmap_2.jpgAn interesting site I have just come across is Newsmap. http://newsmap.jp/#/n/au/view/

It allows you to view key new stories as they are reported in a number of countries and to view coverage of world, national, business, technology, sports and entertainment.

By selecting Australia – I can then search for media coverage on Indonesia for example.

Letter for consent to interview or survey a person for the Research Project is provided in the word file below.

Discussion will begin this week. Ensure you have booked an appointment time with me to hand up a 1 page written discussion or to record a five minute discussion.
Use time this week to look at some online examples of folio work at the SACE web site link below. This will help as a model of how to record your own research key findings in your folio work.sace_board_folio.PNGSACE web site

Week 5 Annotating articles you have read. When you research you will need to make notes on your articles, to demonstrate you have read, summarised and analysed your work to produce key findings.
You can simply high light and make hand written notes on your page, or use sticky notes to summarise key findings.Another way is to copy and paste the article into word and in the review tab at the top of the page, insert a "New comment" where you can make comments in a text box at the side of the page.review_wrod_tool_notes.PNG
